The highway has a total length of 165 km, with 77 km passing through Tuyen Quang and 88 km passing through Ha Giang. The project starts at Nhu Khe Commune, Yen Son District, Tuyen Quang Province, and ends at Tan Quang Commune, Bac Quang District, Ha Giang Province, for phase 1.

The completion of the Tuyen Quang – Ha Giang expressway project will create an economic development corridor from the center of Hanoi through the Noi Bai – Lao Cai expressway, the Tuyen Quang – Phu Tho expressway, to Ha Giang. This will meet the increasing demands for travel and freight transport. At the same time, it will resolve traffic bottlenecks and improve regional and inter-regional connectivity between Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang.
